1. Our Commitment
Only Farmers is committed to building an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful community. Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated on the Platform, whether by Farmers, Guests, or Only Farmers itself.
This Policy is incorporated by reference into the Only Farmers Terms & Conditions and applies to all users of the Platform.
2. Legal Framework
This Policy reflects our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998. Under the Equality Act 2010, it is unlawful to discriminate against a person because of a Protected Characteristic. The Protected Characteristics are:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin)
- Religion or belief
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
3. Farmer Obligations
Farmers must not:
- Refuse a Booking, cancel a confirmed Booking, or treat a Guest less favourably because of any Protected Characteristic.
- Apply different terms, conditions, or pricing to Guests based on any Protected Characteristic.
- Include language in a Listing, Job Posting, or Product Listing that discriminates against or excludes any group based on a Protected Characteristic.
- Refuse to communicate honestly about accessibility provisions on the basis that a Guest has a disability.
- Discriminate in recruitment or employment through the jobs board, including in the wording of Job Postings, in the selection of applicants, in the terms offered, or in the treatment of workers. The Equality Act 2010 prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of any Protected Characteristic, and this applies to all work opportunities advertised on the Platform regardless of whether the arrangement is employment, worker status, or self-employment.
Farmers may impose reasonable, objective, and non-discriminatory requirements in their Listings or Job Postings (for example, age restrictions for safety reasons on equestrian activities, physical fitness requirements for strenuous hikes, or a genuine occupational requirement for a specific role) provided these are clearly stated and are genuinely necessary for the safe provision of the experience or the effective performance of the role.
4. Guest Obligations
Guests must not:
- Act in a discriminatory, harassing, or abusive manner toward Farmers, their staff, other Guests, or any person encountered during an experience.
- Use discriminatory language in reviews, messages, or any other content on the Platform.
- Target, bully, or harass any person on the basis of a Protected Characteristic.
5. Accessibility
Farmers must clearly and honestly describe the accessibility provisions available at their property or experience in their Listing. This includes (where relevant): wheelchair accessibility, step-free access, accessible parking, accessible toilets, hearing loops, visual aids, and any other reasonable adjustments.
Where a Farmer is unable to provide a reasonable adjustment, they should state this honestly in the Listing rather than refusing to engage with the enquiry.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers (including Farmers who offer experiences, stays, or events to the public) are under a positive duty to make reasonable adjustments where a disabled person would otherwise be placed at a substantial disadvantage. This may include adjusting the way the experience is delivered, removing physical barriers where practicable, or providing auxiliary aids. The duty applies to adjustments that are reasonable in the circumstances, taking into account factors such as the cost, practicability, and the nature of the Farmer's operation. It does not require Farmers to make adjustments that are impossible or disproportionate. Only Farmers encourages all Farmers to consider what reasonable adjustments they can make and to describe these in their Listings.
Only Farmers is committed to making the Platform itself accessible to users with disabilities and publishes an Accessibility Statement at onlyfarmers.co.uk/legal.
6. Consequences of Discrimination
Confirmed breaches of this Policy by a Farmer will result in:
- Immediate Listing removal.
- Permanent account termination.
- Where appropriate, referral to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
Confirmed breaches by a Guest will result in:
- Booking cancellation without refund.
- Permanent account termination.
Only Farmers takes all reports of discrimination seriously and will investigate promptly. However, we recognise that investigations can be complex, and we will act on the evidence available.
7. Reporting Discrimination
If you experience or witness discrimination on the Platform, report it to safety@onlyfarmers.co.uk. Please include: your Booking reference (if applicable), a description of the incident, and any supporting evidence (such as screenshots or messages).
Reporting discrimination to Only Farmers does not affect your statutory rights under the Equality Act 2010, including your right to bring a claim to the Employment Tribunal (for employment-related discrimination) or the County Court (for goods and services discrimination).
You may also contact the Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) on 0808 800 0082 for free advice on discrimination issues.
